Carden walked the streets of Verthaven, making his way through the marketplace. He often traveled through the streets of town, to get a feel for any issues that the people of the Kingdom were facing, things he might need to bring to the Queen's attention. Most of the people recognized who he was, from his many visits before, and would flag him down if there was something he needed to discuss.
So far that morning, he'd seen no one in need of his attention. He continued to walk along, his eyes now wandering about as he entered the marketplace, examining the various items for sale, and keeping an eye out for any merchants who might wish to speak with him. He was distracted as he walked, and soon he felt himself crash into another body. He looked to see it was a young lady. "I'm so sorry miss," He said, offering her a hand, "Are you alright?"

How Sapphire came to the town of Verthaven, she had no idea. Sure, she needed to go shopping for more fabric to make more tunics and clothing, but she didn't exactly know how she got to this particular town. Not that it really mattered, she just had to make sure that the hood of her forest green cloak stayed in place. After all, she didn't want anyone to recognize her and go off to tell her parents so they could start another search. She had barely made it without being caught the last time! And so, head down to avoid any viewing of her features, she walked down the cobble-stone streets, passing by the many stores in search of the one that she required.
And finally, she managed to find the store that she needed. Just as she was about to enter said shop, though, she felt something collide with her, causing her to fall to the ground and her hood to slip off ever so slightly. Thankfully, it didn't fall enough to reveal her whole face to the crowd, but it did fall enough to show to whoever had managed to hit her, who was now apologizing to her and offering his hand. Accepting the out stretched hand, Sapphire was quickly lifted off the ground. Standing once more, she fixed the hood as to cover herself once more, as well as dusting off her dirtied cloak and tunic. I'm sorry, it's my fault. I should have been watching where I was going. And I'm fine, are you alright, sir?

As the girl fell, her hood fell away, just enough for Carden to see the girl's face, though no one else in the crowd probably caught a glimpse. It took him a moment to register it in his mind, but he recognized her. She was a daughter of one of the noblemen at the court; he'd seen her before, several times. There were few members of the noble class he didn't recognize by face.
He helped her up, and as soon as she was upright again, she adjusted her hood so her face was hidden. "Purely my fault," He insisted, "And I am quite alright, though I am curious as to why you have been away from your home so long, Lady Winters." A smirk played on his lips as he spoke.

Sapphire was anxious for the man's reply as she waited, hoping that he did not recognize her. Or better yet, didn't even get the chance to see her face. But, her features didn't show this. The only thing that was shown was held within her sapphire eyes, as they shone with concern for the one that she had run into. However, they didn't hold their worries for long, as he quickly said that he was alright and that it was her fault. This relieved her, knowing that she hadn't hurt him. However, her feelings of relief where soon gone at his next comment.
And this next comment caused her eyes to become even larger than they already were as she began to glare and become defensive. If he knew enough about her to call her by Lady Winters after seeing her face and know that she had been gone for quite some time, then this wasn't good. Who are you and why my travels concern you so, the young woman questioned, taking a step away from him as her hand twitched towards the handle of her sword. If she needed to fight, then she would be ready for it.

He could see her hand twitching towards her sword. "Calm down," He said gently, "I am merely curious, as I said," He said, "My name is Carden. I am adviser to the Queen." She might not recognize him, but she definitely recognized her. "Though you don't seem to want to return home, so you have my word: I won't tell your parents that I saw. I do want an answer though." He watched her and waited. He would be good to his word, he wouldn't breath a word of this to a soul. He knew how to keep a secret.

Sapphire watched the man before her with blue eyes narrowed, listening to his every word carefully. He said his name was Carden, and he was a very important official. But could she trust his word to be true? Was he really as important as he said he was or was he some imposter? She had never seen the Queen's adviser before, but he seemed to recognize her. Should she believe him? She didn't really want to, out of suspision, but something in the way he talked made her think otherwise. He sounded wiser and kinder than some common imposter. And so, she chose to believe him, hand once more returning to a comfortable position at her side and away from the sword.
Well, Sir Carden, its nice to meet your aquaintance. And I thank you for not telling my parents that you have seen me. But, as for the answer to your question, I ran away from my home several years ago to escape my parents. You see, I had been trained in the art of fighting, both of the sword and by the hand, by the guards. My parents found out and they fired those that helped me and locked me in my room, only to let me out when it was necessary. They never did love me and they were going to marry me off, I'm sure of it. And so, I ran. And have been on the run since. I'm currently in town to purchase fabrics to make some new tunics. Would you like to accompany me, Sir, the young girl inquired. Might as well try and get some help in deciding, as she was so horrible at choosing clothes.

Carden nodded as she explained her reasons for fleeing from her home. He could understand her wanting to leave such an environment, being locked away just for learning how to defend herself. He doubted that his parents did not love her at all, since they had seemed concerned when she had disappeared. But, she seemed to content with the life she lived, if a bit jumpy.
He was surprised at her offer for him to join him in purchasing fabrics. "I think I shall accompany you," He told her, "Haven't gotten any other pressing matters at the moment, so why not?" "
